    I am not sure if this is a message or not—write my dissertation?—but there’s this small poster pasted on a column in the basement of The Strand Bookstore. Standing right in front of it this very second, it’s taking me back to India. Odd, perhaps, to the casual visitor here. But I am putting together a dissertation about the life and work of golf caddies in India, you see, and every little reminder of that task is good and necessary. So, thank you, Strand.
